multi-page table of contents?

All,

I am creating a page that links to a dozen or so other pages; each of
these other pages more or less corresponds to a "chapter" of our
documentation.

I would like this landing page to have a complete table of contents,
including all the sub-headings of the subsidiary pages. Is this possible?

For example, this seems easy (each line is a page link):

* Installing
* Developer's Guide

But what I want is this (the subsections are linked to subheadings):

* Installing
* Installation Instructions
* Software Prerequisites
* Pyserver
* Flashclient
* Compiling
* Developer’s Guide
* New Developer How-To
* Using Subversion
* Branching model
* Checkout
* How to commit
* Postgres notes
* Dumping and loading the database
* Misc
* Troubleshooting

Is this possible (other than manually)? If so, how do I do it?

Many thanks,

Reid

Indeed, on my small wiki http://transgender-taiwan.org/ on the Main
Page I just do {{Special:Allpages}} to achieve that effect.

Hmmm, maybe use the above method and
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Subpages (but I wouldn't mess up my
page names just for the Special:Allpages display.)

Re: multi-page table of contents?; (New Extension available!) [In reply to]

Hello!I thought that would be a good idea so I programmed for a few weeks and, beside it beeing pretty tough to do and programming around three corners (since there is no avaliable hook for this), I got an extension available that does exact what was wished (at least I think so ;)). It's called ExtIdx (Extended Index).

If a link is in a headline, a plus will appear and if you click on it, the index of the (in the headline) referred page will be shown.

Here's the page of the extension on mediawiki:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ExtIdx_(Extended_Index)

And here's the extensions own website (on the main page click on the link to the "ExtIdx" extension):
http://www.chaosreligion.com

I hope there's a use for it!

greetings,
Markus
