company made older vpn clients obsoelte

The version 0.5.3 is no longer working as my company made it mandatory to use
latest cisco vpn client software but unfortunately Cisco vpn client 5.x series
is only for windows and MAC. Is there any way to get this working in vpnc.
Please help.

Jithin,

Please elaborate on 'latest' - Cisco's newest VPN architecture isn't
even IPSec at all. It is the SSL-based "Anyconnect" client, which does
come in a Linux version. To my knowledge, vpnc won't work at all with
a head end configured only for Anyconnect. But I don't know for a way
for the head end administrator to refuse vpnc if connectivity for the
standard non-anyconnect ipsec client is still enabled.

Do you have logs of how vpnc fails now?

I'm not sure that I understand you correctly, so let me summarize what I
understand reading your question:
Your company was and is using the cisco vpn client to connect via ipsec.
Your company changed something on their servers to now enforce that only
cisco clients running version 5.x can connect.
In that case, you could try and provide the server with a fake client
string (of course you'll need to find out the correct one, but if you
run into trouble there, just ask again, someone should be able to help).
"vpnc --long-help" shows an option called --application-version. Use that.
If it doesn't help, then please provide the output of a connecttion attempt
running with "--debug 3".

ciao
Joerg

We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that
works. Some say that should read Microsoft instead of technology.
