Problem with 0.5.3 followup

Hi,
I just read the 'Problem with 0.5.3' thread and wondered if there is any clue
what causes 0.5.3 to fail sometimes. I see a quite similar effect like the one
after attaching the patch to r327 with 0.5.3 and 0.5.2 while 0.5.1 works.
This looks like the interface setup script breaks the network configuration somehow:
