Joerg, I've quickly checked OpenVPN 2.1_rc7 tap-win32's source code but I haven't seen any changes in how the TUN mode behaves. Once I had tried to make vpnc use the TUN mode but it required changes in the driver and that's the reason why vpnc was enhanced to support TAP interfaces (no changes to the win32 tap driver were required).
