Some Features We Would Like To See
|
|
Since everyone is posting their two cents worth about future development, I thought I would throw out a list of things I would like to see. This is coming from someone who is now using the program every day to access both my UNIX account and my own computer from many remotes (I literally carry around a disk with the WinVNC viewer on it). 1) We really need some way to pass a Ctrl-Alt-Del through to the server. This one isn't gonna happen without a modification to the viewer however. 2) It might be nice to be able to pass the special "Windows" key that pulls up the start menu. It can be hard to grab the taskbar when it is in autohide mode sometimes, and this is an effective way of pulling it up. 3) NT Service. Nothing more needs to be said. 4) An option to decline connections if a user is currently logged on. This of course would only be worth it if the server ran as a service in NT. 5) It might be nice to have an option to detect the "mirror" effect. I use VNC a lot to connect to my girlfriend's computer, but if she is connected to mine then VNC is pretty much useless for both. Just have it gray out the viewer window after one repition. 6) Multicast support is a good idea, reduce server load and network bandwidth. 7) Some way to see if a user is currently logged onto a windows machine with VNC. Maybe the icon in the taskbar could change color? Good to have so you can see if you are being spyed on... 8) I would like to see integration with NT security too. Use NTs user lists for login purposes, passwords, etc. 9) Built in FTP protocol? I know this starts to get to be a touchy subject, thin client and all... but as long as it fits on a floppy disk.... 10) Viewer saves a list of previously accessed machine addresses (just hate having to retype it every time) That's enough for now. I'll let the people who know more about the technical parts of the screen grab methods and network transport handle those issues. Remember, just a wish list... -Aaron DiLapi --------------------------------------------------- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institiute, Class of 2000 Electronic Media Arts & Communications http://www.rpi.edu/~dilapi
