Low-bandwithd stress-test [was: R6 test results.]

>Been running R6 server under 95 for about an hour with no problems. Looks >like you hit the nail on the head. I can second the opinion. I've noticed two problems so far (one reported earlier, the other something from Norton Doctor about running out of resources) but other than that, it looks very solid indeed. I stress tested a low-bandwidth installation, and vnc passed with flying colors. I have an internal network with two Linux machines and two Win95 machines. I fired up PPP on one Linux machine, logged into a remote Unix account, and ran the Unix vncviewer on the remote account. So the data was going: Win95 --28.8K modem--> Unix vncviewer --28.8K modem--> Linux X display The data had to pass through the same 28.8K modem (and over the Internet, complete with dropped packets) twice, once in each direction. All the while, I had a second copy of vncviewer running on the Linux machine, so I had two copies being updated, one via the 28.8K modem (twice) and one directly over the internal Ethernet. Everything worked. Granted, I could see the little squares being drawn, but it worked. WordPerfect was even usable (though barely). It was also interesting to see how the two displays synched. I think making the little squares of data bigger would offer a big performance improvement, but I am impressed with the efficient use of the bandwidth. Good job. -Joel (joel [at] exc)
