We see entries like

in Varnish 2.1.3 with ESI enabled.
HAProxy in front reports timing like 0/0/0/63/101889 and
0/0/0/8649/1182844. That means it took 63ms and 8649ms before Varnish
started returning data, but that the connection wasn't closed until after
101 and 1182 seconds.

ESI is used extensively for the entire site, it's not unique to this URL,
but this URL is the only place we have noticed the seemingly hanging
Varnish connections so far.
Tollef said that he had an idea he wanted to investigate about the cause
of this.
