Dear David
You need to install the modules to let it work for you, U need to install the registration model, the authentication module, and you need to install the email client like ( sendmail) for your server. and create an account on gmail or yahoo or any mail server which are public servers, and put in ur account details (username and password) in your server sendmail application so the application could use your account and sent email notifications to others.
