SPF Help

Hello -

I am having some problems . SPF keeps rejecting my e-mail and I don't know
what to do.

My ISP REQUIRES that I use their outbound mail server . And SPF doesn't
seem to like that.

Here is the error I keep getting;

Failed to deliver to 'brett [at] audioengineusa'

SMTP module(domain audioengineusa.com) reports:

host mail.audioengineusa.com says:

550 See http://spf.pobox.com/why.html?sender=jim.knight%40redwoodmktg.com
<http://spf.pobox.com/why.html?sender=jim.knight%40redwoodmktg.com&ip=24.113
.32.25&receiver=firstchoiceremarketing.com>
&ip=24.113.32.25&receiver=firstchoiceremarketing.com (#5.7.1)

Please e-mail or call as I am really handicapped here without full e-mail
access.

Thank you in advance -

The SPF record for redwoodmktg.com is:

v=spf1 ip4:216.171.167.40 -all

Thus you (I assume you set up the SPF record) are saying that only
216.171.167.40 can send mail for your domain. To use other mail
servers you would need to ask you ISP for the IP address(es) of their
mail server(s) and put them in your record:

v=spf1 ip4:216.171.167.40 ip4:x.x.x.x -all

Re: SPF Help [In reply to]

Jim,

Have you gone to the spf.pbox.com/why.html page? It kind of tells you
what's going on and what you need to do to fix it.

Basically, when mail.audioengineusa.com gets your email, the server it's
getting it from is 24.113.32.25, i,e, mail3.wavecable.com, but
redwoodmktg.com says that email from redwood, should only come from
217.171.167.40 and to reject all others. If redwood's way out to the
internet is through wavecable's email servers, you will need to add them
to your SPF record. You might need to contact them to determine what all
of their outbound mail servers are. It looks like there is at least
mail2.wavecable.com - mail7.wavecable.com.

Does that help?

Dan

Your ISP publishes an SPF record:

wavecable.net. 86400 IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:24.113.32.0/24 ~all"

Your domain has an SPF record:

redwoodmktg.com. 21600 IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:216.171.167.40 -all"

Presumably you published this record. You need to modify it to also cover
your ISP's mail servers. The way you do that is change it to:

"v=spf1 ip4:216.171.167.40 include:wavecable.net -all"
