Trying to understand SPF for HELO/EHLO

I haven't been using SPF for HELO/EHLO, but would like to. To me it looks like it has a double entendre

Let's say I am sending messages from mydomain.com and I have setup proper SPF records identifying my outbound server as mail.myserver.com.

I add the record below for helo/ehlo
mail.myserver.com. 14400 IN TXT "v=spf1 ip4:serv.ers.ip.address -all"

Doesn't the txt spf record above also say it is OK for mail to come from user[at]mail.myserver.com as long as it comes from the 'ipi4:serv.ers.ip.address".

Thanks

Bob Davis

Hello Bob,

You are correct. That SPF record for mail.myserver.com does say that.

Generally, that is not a problem, provided you have constructed your SPF
record correctly.

You should use "example.com" instead of "myserver.com", the real owner
of that domain (In Tokyo), would probably appreciate it.

Yes. That's by design.

OK, now I get it and thanks for the heads up on example.com, I see that it
is reserved for documentation by IANA as per RFC 2606.
