Help With SPF Record

I have been trying to get my SPF record correct for my domain trickel.com.
I am somewhat technical, but I am currently lost. I tried to look at some
of the older posts and I am sure the answers to my questions exist
somewhere; however, I have given up and I am begging for some help. I am
really frustrated with trying to get this to work and I can not find a
document that helps me understand, so at this point I just want a solution.

All I want to be able to do is send email as whoever [at] trickel and use the
SPF record to help fight SPAM. I would prefer to send it from the
mailix.net domain or from my smu.edu account and the blackberry mail
servers. I do not want it to matter where I am getting my Internet
connection from, and once I am happy with the configuration I will switch
the ~ to a -.

Current Version of my record

v=spf1 mx ip4:216.9.248.0/24 a:s31xub.systems.smu.edu
a:s31xua.systems.smu.edu ~all

I have an update in process that will change to

v=spf1 mx ip4:216.9.248.0/24 mx:smu.edu a:smtp.mailix.net ~all

The MX for trickel.com is

mx.mailix.net and amx.mailix.net

but I think the header is showing the email coming from the following,
should I add that to my SPF record?

smtp.mailix.net

I tried to send mail via mx.mailix.net but under the current configuarion or
by error of the ISP I get something like

"'subscribe-spf-help [at] v2' on 5/15/2007 1:40 PM 550 relay not
permitted"

Also when I sent through mx.mailix.net I saw the following; however, I am
only using outlook at that ip address, do I need to add any possible IP
address that I will be originating email from to the SPF record? Is this
something strange that my smtp server is doing?

Hi Erik,

I think this is the root of your difficulty. The IP address
from which you send the message is irrelevant. The MX that handles
incoming mail for your domain is irrelevant. You need to start by
making a list of the SMTP server(s) you use to send outgoing mail. If
you use the same SMTP server regardless of your ISP (how you connect to
the Internet) then it's typically fairly easy. If you change SMTP
servers when you change ISPs (take your laptop to the office) then it
gets more difficult.

It sounds like you need to make a list of the mail servers you
use when sending mail through mailix.net, smu.edu, and Blackberry.
