Whitelist gives positive score???

I whitelisted some friends, but, to my shock, whitelist ADDS to a
score, I thought it should subtract it? It adds 5 to my scores. What's
wrong?

When you say you whitelisted folks, do you mean "whitelist_*" config options,
or something through the AWL?

If the former, that is strange, and I'd assume your config overrides the
scores positively for some reason.

If the latter, http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/AwlWrongWay

Actually both.

Example of latter:

3.5 AWL AWL: From: address is in the auto white-list

Do you know what is the score name for whitelist_from?

Despite it's name, the AWL is *not* a whitelist, it's a score averaging
system. The AWL is fully automated, and has nothing to do with your
manual whitelisting efforts. (ie: whitelist_* commands do not affect the
AWL scores).

Also, a positive score doesn't always mean the AWL thinks the message is
spam.

I'd suggest reading this article to get your mind around what the AWL
does and what behaviors are normal, and what ones are problems:
