Well, I think I found the problem finally, in essence, it was a 1-off count error occuring because I was taking the value returned back by the QuotedPrintable decoding function to be the number of characters in the string. Trouble was, I was returning the -index- of the final character in the string.
Anyhow, more email packs are now decoding correctly.
Several patches have been rolled back as these patches were a 'band-aid' over the top of my own fatal 1-off mistake.
