Does anyone know projecthoneypot.org, and does anyone run qmail
software, that interfaces with it ?
-It looks pretty interesting to me. =)

I'm not sure I understand your question. I participate in Project
Honeypot, but I'm not sure how you expect qmail software to interface
with it.

Project Honeypot is a collaborative spamtrap system that identifies
the IP addresses of bots that harvest email addresses from websites,
and the mail servers that send spam to those harvested addresses.

Are you asking whether anyone has a system for qmail to reject mail
from the IP addresses identified by Project Honeypot? I'm not aware
of any such interface. In fact, Project Honeypot is a little vague
about what they do with the addresses they collect.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your quick reply.
Sorry for not explaining in details. Yes, I'm interested in rejecting
emails from the IP addresses identified by Project Honeypot. :)

Jens

Re: Project Honey Pot [In reply to]

From the Project Honeypot FAQ's:
Is this another DNSBL for mail servers? No. Http:BL reports on IP addresses
used by harvesters, comment spammers, and other suspicious robots visiting
web pages. It does not include the IP addresses of the mail servers used by
spammers. There are lots of great mail server DNSBLs out there, including
those maintained by Spamhaus, SURBL, Spamcop, etc. We are not trying to
recreate the wheel.http://projecthoneypot.org/faq.php#b

Re: Project Honey Pot [In reply to]

Hi Eric,

I was interested in blocking mails from IPs identified by project
honeypot, but as I understand it now, it seems that they are used in
this way?

Jens

RE: Project Honey Pot [In reply to]

Jens,

Project Honey Pot does publish and RBL, but not one suitable for blocking
mail. We didn't want to reinvent the wheel.

If you'd like to benefit from Project Honey Pot's data for your mail
filtering, we recommend using SURBL (www.surbl.org). It's a free service and
we share data with them.

Thank you,

Eric
