I always suggest 1) but if a good spam filter is in place like in 2) autoreplys become a minor problem. I also suggest that customers use "role accounts" and an incident system whenever possible. So for urgent business mails they always are in a pool and a colleague can take over/contact the customer in case of holidays, ... Also helps with legal requirements for archiving. \Maex
