[issue1729305] test_doctest fails when run in verbose mode

It still occurs on trunk.
test test_doctest crashed -- <type 'exceptions.UnicodeEncodeError'>:
'ascii' codec can't encode characters in position 343-344:
ordinal not in range(128)
