Ntop (4.1 or 5.0) dies, nothing in log only something in messages log

Hello all,

I'm running ntop 4.10 (32 Bit version) or 5.0 (always 32 bit version) and they just crashes when the binary start with segfaults either daemon
mode or not.
I'm running on VM Slackware Current on physical server with CPU I7 and 24GB mem.
Into dmesg file i found this :

dmesg | grep ntop

[1232095.316759] ntop[12004]: segfault at 0 ip b7438f1f sp bfe810b0 error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b739a000+17a000]

FYI here is my kernel and glibc version:

uname -a
Linux monitoring 3.2.23 #2 Thu Jul 12 22:32:00 CDT 2012 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Until a few months ago the same VM with NTOP 4.10 worked without any problems, probably after some updates (kernel, Glibc) has stopped
working but I can not find where is the problem.

..you're running 2 versions of 32bit ntop on 64bit hardware,
on what kinda vm and hw OS'es?

..how much ram can your 32bit ntop installs see, and use?

..running ntop in an virtual machine, you should be able to
cap them to e.g. 2GB ram and see if that changes your crash
error messages.

..disclaimer: I haven't touched ntop in a coupla years.

Only one version at a time or 4.10. or 5.0 into 64bit hardware

Vmware 5u1 free
> ..how much ram can your 32bit ntop installs see, and use?
4 CPU & 3GB of ram and use 2,8GB

Uhm !!!!! This could be a problem because the VM is already at the limit
of RAM. I made an attempt and I tell you

Do not worry, nobody is perfect:-)
We'll update the SAL :-)

Hello all,

found the problem .... It seems that libpcap 1.3.0 with no match at
NTOP 4.1.0 and NTOP 5.0.
Uninstalled and installed version 1.1.1 and it works great.
I think this topic can be considered closed.

Thanks to everyone for the help..
