Possible errors in the latest release.

When a monitored interface goes down, i.e a virtual interface, ntop behaves unpredictable, not showing any graphs or becomes un-responsive or refuses to start/restart.

If a monitored interface does not excist (or goes down), I think ntop should just skip it.
Currently having problems with ntop together with a pptp vpn tunnel, that creates a virtual interface and sometimes it goes down because of other reasons.

Also getting loads of these

Mon Jun 7 21:18:13 2010 [rrdPlugin.c:2810] **WARNING** RRD: rrd_update(/var/ntop/rrd/interfaces/eth0/IP_DNSFlows.rrd) error: Unable to connect to rrdcached: failed to resolve address `(null)' (port 42217): Name or service not known
Mon Jun 7 21:18:13 2010 [rrdPlugin.c:2810] **WARNING** RRD: rrd_update(/var/ntop/rrd/interfaces/eth1/throughput.rrd) error: Unable to connect to rrdcached: failed to resolve address `(null)' (port 42217): Name or service not known

how can I reproduce this? What interface type you use and where (OS)?

Re: Possible errors in the latest release. [In reply to]

Thanks, will do over the weekend.

For now, I’ve deleted everything in the data-dir (/var/ntop) except the
ntop–pw.db file, restarted, and it seems to work, at least for now.

My guess is that ntop screwed up something and couldn’t recover from it.

Re: Possible errors in the latest release. [In reply to]

Compiled and up and running, since half an hour or so.

One thing I’ve noticed, it only sees half of the hosts on the local network

Furthermore, my CENTOS 5.3(5) router/GW is identified as Win95

My CENTOS 5.3 server is identified as linux 2.4

Re: Possible errors in the latest release. [In reply to]

Although ”—db-file-path” is set in ntop.conf, it does display correctly in
the web-gui “Admin/Configure/Startup Otions” nor in
“Admin/Configure/Preferences”

I have set it in the configuration file as “/var/ntop” but in the gui its
“/usr/local/var/ntop/

However, in “About/Show Configuration” it is correct.

Same applies to other settings in the ntop.conf

Re: Possible errors in the latest release. [In reply to]

The GUI stores settings in a DB and has default values, that's what you're seeing.
