webserver doesnt like hostname

greetings.

if i attempt to browse to the hostname of my server
(hostname):3000

on the local network, i get the 'broken' page not found page:
-------
Please enable make sure that the ntop html/ directory is properly installed

Error 400
The specified request is invalid.

Received request:

"GET / HTTP/1.1"
-------

but if i browse to the IP address of my server:3000, it works just fine.

so, its not really that big of a deal since i can just browse to it by IP, but, im sort of nonplussed as to why this would be happening. any suggestions? (also, i have apache hosting some sites on this box, not sure if that makes a difference or not)
