Maximum number of netflow interfaces?

I have not looked in the source code to see if there is a hard limit,
but I haven't found the answer in any FAQ. Is there a maximum limit to
the number of netflow interfaces that can be configured in ntop? I've
tried 20 or so, but what if I wanted to set up 400?

Hmmmm 400? Can't answer that. I obviously haven't reviewed every line
of code (but getting closer!) but don't recall a hard limit. There
might be something in globals-defines.h to limit "all" types of
interfaces to 32 or something like that? There IS a hard limit on the
reports that shows you the netflow exporters? It's 16 per interface. I
have some that use mid twenties per interface so I changed this in
recompiled - blam, no prob.

Re: Maximum number of netflow interfaces? [In reply to]

Ps: instead of that many IFs per instance, I would recommend multiple instances with a "reasonable" number of interfaces each - with a "reasonable" number of flow exporters per interface. Try to balance the number of hosts/session if you can, such that one instance doesn't see 100K hosts while another only sees 500.

Dave
this is an artificial limit (#define) you can increase

Re: Maximum number of netflow interfaces? [In reply to]

Luca - you indicate there is a #define to limit the number of
interfaces. Can you be more specific as to which define it is? Is it
'MAX_NUM_DEVICES' in globals-defines.h? Or is it something else?
Thanks!

Re: Maximum number of netflow interfaces? [In reply to]

Dave
yes tha's the variable. However please note that having many
interfaces is not a good idea. So the basic question is: why do you
have so many netflow devices? Is this architecture correct or not?

Cheers Luca
