v6 only CPE

Does anyone know of a wireless CPE (1 WAN port, 4 wired LAN ports, wireless LAN) that I can buy in US and that does native v6...without requiring v4?

- The Linksys supports v6 [.well, 6rd or 'automatic' - no static configuration for a WAN IPv6 address] and it doesn't let you configure an IPv6 LAN prefix [Linksys EA4500; firmware 2.0.37].....and no, I don't want to flash a special build......have that with other linksys devices - I just want to be able to buy one that does what it needs right out of the box

- The D-LINK is amazing with useful v6 configuration options but it still requires me to enter some v4 info on the WAN port even though I don't need it.....it won't let me leave the fields blank which is silly. [never mind that the antennae is underpowered....can't have it all]

It's really a simple set-up.....configure a /64 on the WAN side and a /64 on the LAN side. And v6 DNS servers. Just simple native v6 connectivity from my v6-wireless devices to my router with native v6 Internet connectivity. I'm not even looking at any filtering or logging :) Just plain WAN-LAN connectivity via native v6.

While I just this week bought new CPEs from the local OfficeMax thinking the IPv6 support as stated on the boxes is finally here I'm quite disappointed. Perhaps I'm just not looking at the right models. I did upgrade to latest firmware that seemed to be available. Looking for devices in the $99-$130 price range.

Thanks for any clues...

Re: v6 only CPE [In reply to]

you have several choices:
1. Mikrotik routerboards (rb750GL) or RB493G, RB450G, RB2011 or any cheapest
rb
2. a openwrt supported router (Netgear ® WNDR3700 recomanded)
thank you

I'm not sure about it, but probably the most recent boxes from AVM can do what you need. I have a Fritz!Box 7330 with IPv6, but I'm using it in a different scenario: I have an IPv4 connection over ADSL and I get IPv6 via a SixXS tunnel. Anyway, I am sending you two snapshots of the two relevant configuration panels of the Fritz!Box, which, in my opinion, prove that te Fritz!Box should be able to do what you need.

I have a ZyXEL P-2812HNU-F3 that can do this. Whether or not it is
available in the US, I don't know.

It does require an IPv4 address assigned to its LAN interface, but the
DHCPv4 server can be disabled, so your LAN devices can be IPv6-only.
Also, when disabling IPv4 on the WAN interface, the web UI will
incorrectly claim it's disconnected from the internet, but that's a
purely cosmetic bug as far as I tell.

Best regards,

Hi Marco....

Yes, this box would work (at least from looks of what I can configure from Acct Info). I am just expanding/testing my v6only network and have the capability to have many device communicate only over v6......the varied v6 support *today* that doesn't do *native* v6 in a CPE is a disappointment.

In your previous mail you wrote:

=> unfortunately the IPv6 support in current OpenWrt is pretty bad...

PS: yes, it is a call to OpenWrt people to pay more attention
to IPv6 (newer kernel, no alignment trap in IPv6 kernel code, etc)

"current" as in "latest released version" or "trunk"?

Actually I'd say "IPv6 support in OpenWRT -trunk is quite good" - what
are you missing?

=> latest release. I tried trunk but it didn't compile in my test
environment (grub config loops for VMware images... pretty bad as it
is very fine to build directly the imag files).
And as far as I know IPv6 alignment traps in kernel are still in trunk
(but you can say it is in fact a Linux kernel issue)
