IPv6 Hackers mailing-list

Folks,

We have created the "IPv6 Hackers" mailing-list for discussion of IPv6
security issues and low-level issues. The charter of the list is:

---- cut here ----
This list was created for the discussion of IPv6 security issues and
low/packet-level issues related to the IPv6 protocols. It is meant to
provide forum for IPv6 security researchers and IPv6 networking
professionals to discuss low-level IPv6 networking and security issues
that could eventually lead to advances and improvements in the area of
IPv6 security and IPv6 networking. Discussion of unrelated networking or
security topics are considered "off topic". Subscription to the list is
open to the community.
---- cut here ----

You can subscribe to the mailing-list here:
http://lists.si6networks.com/listinfo/ipv6hackers/

Thanks!

Best regards,

hi Fernando,

curious - why not use this forum ?

IMO these topics (and especially any mitigations/workarounds) would
have a direct operational impact, so the discussions would very much
benefit of early involvement of the ops folks...

cheers,
andrew

I agree. I was only yesterday trying to cut down on the number of lists I'm on. I think this one (ipv6-ops) is very good and an ideal place to raise such security issues. If there's protocol issues to be fixed, then the IETF 6man list is appropriate too.

Short answer: because e.g. security research don't necessarily care
about ops. The converse may also be true: ops people could certainly
provide valuable input, but they don't necessarily care about all the
discussion process.

It's clear that there will always be an overlap in the subscriber lists
among to lists (e.g., those that care about ops and about the low-level
discussions).. but I don't think that overlap is 100% -- hence de
separate list.

(FWIW, the same could be argued about this list itself. Why don't we
discuss ipv6ops on nanog@? After all, every ops folks I know are
subscribed to nanog@ no matter whether they are in North America or not)

Yes, but it would also benefit from the input of bugtraq-mindset... and
I don't think you could get many of those on an ops list.

Thanks!

Ok, let's discuss the operational issue here:

please fix the IPv6 reverse mapping for the machines sending email before
trying to run a list with them. People may simply reject the emails without
that.
