IPv6 on BigIron?

Hi all--

A quick look on the Foundry site gives me, as usual, very little info on the
IPv6 capabilities of Foundry gear. Anyone know off the top of his or her
head:

a) if a J-BxGMR4 will run IPv6;
b) if not, which gear runs the protocol. . . .

Bonus points for any dual-stacking information, or anything other useful
basic knowledge.

As always, thanks. I'll keep digging on the Foundry site in the meantime.

Hi Chuck,

The J-BxGMR4 is able to run IPv6, it is all in software though.
RIPng, OSPFv3, IPv6 IS-IS and BGP4+. The only thing that is missing is
VRRP v6.

yes, with Ironware 8.0 and better. However, IPv6 will be done by the
CPU, not an ASIC. Because of that, it is not recommended for a
production environment.

Hi Chuck,

Yes, the J-BxGMR4 will do IPv6, but you need to have a software version
greater than 08.0.x.

More precisely: You need Jetcore module *and* software equals to 08.x.
9.x or 7.x do not have any IPv6 features.

However, Jetcore manager runs a fully software-based IPv6 routing.

Clément

FYI: The XMR/MLX series runs IPv6 in hardware and has had support for
it for quite some time now. You just need to load the right CAM
profile. There is support for IPv6 with BGP, IS-IS and OSPFv3. I'm
currently using the XMR in production with IPv6 with BGP and IS-IS on
3.9.x without any problems.

Hello Clement,

which exact software tree are you referring to?

I was trying to enable v6 on 8001u (08.0.01uT53 / B2R08001u.bin) but didn't
have success.
Is the B2R-image the correct version set? My modules are jetcore (J-BxGMR4).

Can't find the appropriate manual :-(
The v6 manual from April (IPv6_April2009_Config_Guide.pdf) just says
IronWare
Software 07.7.02 and higher.

Thanks,
Gunther

You need the B2P image for IPv6.
