Extreme Switch CPU utilization on port-mirroring ?

Hi,

I have an extreme switch Summit 400-24p. I am running port-mirroring for two ports on tthe switch. I need to check what impact does it make on the CPU when i run port mirroring for a said number of ports?

The show version output is as follows:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extreme switch:32 # show version
System Serial Number:
CPU board: 8S40524P3A1 P12236889 CP1: 4 CP2: 06
Image : Extremeware Version 7.5e.2.8 [non-ssh] by Release_Master on 03/08/06 03:53:37
BootROM : 5.1
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also when i run "top" command the output is as follows:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
top

Can some one point out how can i find cpu statistics on the extreme summit switch when we run port-mirroring ? And also how much load does port-mirroring make on the switch? Is there any forecasting or dimensioning done for this ?

regards,
HA

Extreme Switch CPU utilization on port-mirroring ? [In reply to]

Hi Jo,

Well, it seems Extreme is not really very active with EOS anymore, this is the slow path for this code nowadays. Their attention seems more about XOS which is more promising.

To my experience, I "only" had to deplore some series of BD6800 chassis which seems to refuse to work properly... a bad serie I guess, but I know some customers having them. I'm running some Extreme boxes in various customers network (ISP or not) without more problem than other brands.

Regards,

Stephane.
