old Summit48 and 1000BaseT GBIC

hello,

I have a problem with summit48 switch (old one) and 1000BaseT gbic model
(WS-G5483-NW)
I'is not original cisco gbic, but comming from the same factory.

The problem is that this switch doesn't see the gbic at all, like there is
nothing inside the slot.

Is it a common problem for this switch and 1000BaseT Gbics or just with my
one ?
Or maybe you can recommend any working with this old model ?

Regards,
Marcin

Are you sure Extreme supports 1000baseT GBICs?

I can?t find any 1000baseT GBICs on extremenetworks.com

Well if it does, it could be a 3d party problem. I?ve had some issues with
3d party GBICs on my Cisco 3750.

Possible workaround is to use SX/LX-GBIC and connect that to a
mediaconverter, fiber->copper. But that?s not really cost efficient, plus
it?s another possible source of error.

I have also no success in getting an Cisco 1000-BT-Converter running in an Extreme Switch.
I tried an Summit 7i, Alpine and Summit 4 and the only thing that i get is a resetting switch (Summit 7i) but no running gbic.

hi,

on a S48 the T-GBIC can not work. these kind of GBIC were not known as
the SW development was finished.

On i-hardware this reset can happen, depends on the code. All i-hardware
should support the latest code 7.7. these code suport T-GBICs, but no
guaranty for Ciscos. truy Finisar.
