How is it resolved in Summit 400 or Summit x450e with foregin SFP modules ?
Are they accepted ? Or only ExtremeNetworks branded ???

third-party SFP's work fine on the X450, although officially unsupported
of course. Same for XFP's, even when they show 'unsupported' in the CLI
'show port config' command, they do work fine.

well, do you configure the switch somehow to accept unsupported SFPs ?

what I got is:
04/27/2009 22:20:06.27 <Erro:PORT> ERROR: Port 1 : Unknown GBIC. Port
will not activate.
04/27/2009 22:20:06.10 <Erro:PORT> ERROR: Port 2 : Unknown GBIC. Port
will not activate.

one - finisar LX, the other some CWDM from china.

Regards,
Marcin

Hi Marcin

No you don't have to configure something special

You just have to plug it.
I have never done the test on summit X450 but I have done it on Summit 400 or on BD8K and it worked fine with severall kind of SFP.

well, it seems that I have some really strange SFPs...

04/28/2009 00:10:22.51 <Warn:PORT> Unsupported GBIC from vendor CORETEK
: on Port 1
04/28/2009 00:09:57.76 <Warn:PORT> Unsupported GBIC from vendor FIBERXON
INC. : -6.77814.237243.67-24.00 on Port 1
04/28/2009 00:09:31.67 <Erro:PORT> ERROR: Port 1 : Unknown GBIC. Port
will not activate.
04/28/2009 00:09:10.18 <Erro:PORT> ERROR: Port 1 : Unknown GBIC. Port
will not activate.
04/28/2009 00:08:53.17 <Erro:PORT> ERROR: Port 1 : Unknown GBIC. Port
will not activate.
04/28/2009 00:08:34.94 <Erro:PORT> ERROR: Port 1 : Unknown GBIC. Port
will not activate.
04/28/2009 00:08:00.42 <Erro:PORT> ERROR: Port 1 : Unknown GBIC. Port
will not activate.

Unsupported - work fine, but unknown were:
finisar FTRJ-1316-7D-2.5
Cisco 10-1755-01
and chinese CWDM SFPs.

Probably they don't present themselves in some standard way (LX/SX/ZX)
so the switch refuses to accept them.

Anyone tested CWDM SFPs with ExtremeWare ?

Regards,
Marcin

We used Finisar GBICs with ExtremeWare and they worked fine.
