Lun destroy does not free up vol free space

Toasters:
Vol size is 1024GB. It had 4 vmware type luns of 240gb each taking the vol to 100% used.

Now need to SIS the volumes so can't do 100% used. Lun offline/destroy 1 lun (didnt need it) and expected to see free space in volume show up. However after 2 minutes it DID go to 70%, but now back to 100% used still. No vol or aggr snapshots exist. Sis enabled still but failing due to being full. May try to turn it off to see if it will unjar the free block space.

Any ideas why lun destroy wouldn't provide more free space from a df? I'm sure I'm missing something amazingly simple.
