non disruptive HBA card installation on FAS3170 possible?

Hi folks,

I kind of doubt that this is possible since our FAS3170 pair
is in the same physical box and the power supplies are shared
by both controllers, etc. If I am wrong, then how do you
do it? Power down one controller with the RLM ? Then how
do you install the HBA without disrupting the other controller?

Once you have properly and successfully failed over, cautiously eject the appropriate controller head and go from there.

Steve,

The motherboards slide out with a screw and pull-tab, individually.  You should be able to do a takeover on the other node, and pull the board out with the other system halted (or in ready-for-giveback).
