RE: upgrade a FAS980 with 10GB network cards possible? [In reply to]

Hello René

I do not believe this is possible.  Looking at the system configuration guides I don't see any supported 10gbE cards even for the FAS-3020 which also uses PCI-X slots.

I believe the minimum hardware for 10 gbE would be a FAS-3040, which uses PCI-e.

Servus,
Kenneth

There are no 10GbE NICs listed for the FAS980 on
https://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/hardware/NetApp/syscfg/scdot737/index.htm.
The FAS30xx series are the first controllers that have them listed as
available options.

If he is using a FAS980 - I doubt he is worried about it being supported

RE: upgrade a FAS980 with 10GB network cards possible? [In reply to]

Hi

True, but there isn't a PCI-X 10gbE adapter supported in any model or version of ONTAP so I would doubt that ONTAP has a driver for it or that it would work.

If anyone can prove me wrong I'd be keen to hear it.

Sorry for not being more explicit.

regards
Kenneth

The 3050 will take 10G, the 3020 will not. The 3070 takes a dual port
10G card.

RE: upgrade a FAS980 with 10GB network cards possible? [In reply to]

Hi

Thanks for the info, indeed a look on parts finder reveals this:
http://now.netapp.com/eservice/partDetails.do?partNumber=X1005A-R5&productGuid=47DAC65608E10083E10080000A63AE6C&rohsCompliant=R5

According to parts finder the platforms listed are:
V6070,V6030,V3050,V3020,FAS6070,FAS6030,FAS3050,FAS3020

This card I guess might work in the FAS-980 but without testing it is impossible to say.  It definitely wouldn't be Netapp supported though.

cheers
Kenneth

Hello Toaster,

thanks to all for the fast answers.
So we will stay at 1GBit Links.

Until we find somethings like FAS3070 for a cheap sale :-)

Thanks,

René
