ALSA question

I've had ALSA working fine on my system for a long time, except for
MythTV (I use the system for more than just MythTV), so I have a good
ALSA configuration.

What I can't seem to find anywhere is what to put into the Audio Device
field in the MythTV settings. I just saw that you have to "type in a
value" since it only shows the OSS dsp devices in the list. I tried to
put in "hw:0,0", but it says it can't open the device. How do I specify
an ALSA device?

You have to type "ALSA:default"

In General settings change the audio output device from /dev/dsp to
ALSA:device. Replace device with whatever you normally use for your
other ALSA applications. Some typical values are spdif, iec958,
default, hw:0,0, plughw:0,0, and so on. An example is ALSA:spdif or to
use your example ALSA:hw:0,0. Make sure that ALSA is all upper-case.

Thank you. The ALSA was the missing part.

Is this stuff summarized in a FAQ/WIKI anywhere? I managed to
find the 'ALSA:default' line awhile back for what I was doing, but info on
that is few and far between. Come to think of it, I don't recall getting
any response on my query to get BOTH SPDIF and analog out at the same
time...
