External TV-output with VIA EPIA ME6000?

Hi

I am planing to build a mythbox with a VIA EPIA ME6000 and a PVR-250. But I
don't now, if the MPEG2 decoder is good enough, for playback of TV?

My question is, would it better to buy a PVR-350, and use the TVout on that,
instead of the TVout on the VIA board?

Regards
Christoffer

I have a M10000 running, with the same MPEWG2 decoder, the decoder itself is
good enougth for TV, even for DVD it is ok, but the TVout feature of the
M10000 is not so good, the picture is not as sharp and crispy as itr could be
from PVR2540 I use for encoding. I can see this when I watch TV programm
after burned it to a DVD with a Pioneer DVD-player.

Kenneth has recently done a lot of work on the Via code (thanks
Kenneth!) that has made a great improvement to MPEG2 decoding and the TV
out. I don't have a PVRx50 card to compare it with, but I'd say the TV
out on the EPIA board is now very good.

Cheers,

Jon

The quality depends on which drivers you're using.
The via binary drivers apply a horrible flicker filter on the TV out which
gives you a blurred image.
Also.... the default brightness levels are way too high..

Hi

Thanks for you answer, and sorry for this late answer :)

I have bought a VIA M10000 with the Nemesis processor, and a PVR250.
Will try to make it work next week. Thanks for the help.

regards
Christoffer

Looks like I will hook mine m10k back up as a frontend. I will be more
then glad to bug test or provide any feedback on this matter, tv-out.

Right now I have been using my m10k as a remote telescope control for
kstars but have been wanting to move it back into the house anyway.

The tv-out, I thought, has always looked pretty good.
