Frontend MythDVD rip problem...

I can't rip a DVD from my frontend. It starts and runs for a little bit,
but then I get "backend server connection lost". I have to re-boot the
frontend to fix the problem.
Something I see as strange, even though I make sure I have mtd -d running
on my backend, I get the message about "no daemon running, press a number
key to start one".
When I press a number key, the following message appears in mtd.log...

When I start MTD on my backend using "mtd -n", it just sits waiting for a
connection like the xbox frontend never connects.
Doesn't this mean that MTD is running on my xbox and not my mythbackend?
Is this why I can't rip?
