renice mythbackend, or low-latency, or preemptive patch on myth 0.14?

Although there are lots of people having some trouble with stuttered
recordings, I haven't seen any recent discussion on using renice on
mythbackend lately. Is this a good idea? Is it likely to help reduce
the occurrence of stuttered recordings? Certainly it's a very simple
tweak, compared to kernel patches.

But the kernel patches for low latency or preemptive interrupt handling
may also have some benefits. I wasn't sure, but it seemed to me like
Axel Thimm's tweaked kernel (2.4.20-28_36.rh9.at is the one I'm using)
may already have the low latency patch applied. If not, would that help
the stutter issue? Would the preemptive patch help?
