I had a similar problem just yesterday building an IR transmitter. The problem turned out to be the IR LED I was using. Here's the list of Radio Shack parts I used to get it working: 276-1538 9-Position Female Solder D-Sub Connector 276-1122 PK10 1N914/4148 271-1328 PK5 3.3K 1/4 Watt 276-0143 5MM IR LED 940 NM Those parts plus a little bit of ethernet wire was all it took. I nearly gave up after banging my head against the wall for a while, the IR LED was the problem the whole time. Here's a pretty good picture of my end product. http://www.permutation.org/images/ir_transmitter.jpg Don't get discouraged! Other Options? After following the wonderful instructions of Dan Morphis, and even getting my hands on a picture of the "Simple Transmitter", I was unsuccessful in building one. (Tried 3 times). I'm now looking for other options, I've heard of the IR-200L, however I am using a Scientific Atlanta 2100 and I heard they might not be compatable. Any ideas?
