PVR-350 TV-out question

HI!

Soon, I'll plan to try the TV-out of my PVR-350. There is one thing I do
not understand though:

If I use the TV-out of the 350 and hook my TV to it, where do I see the
text console (during boot or when pressing CTRL-ALT-F1)? I guess,
nowhere, since the TV-out of the 350 only works for X.

Thanks!

Thomas

you are right.

for debugging, you would need to use the vga instead.
but from months of experience, I never needed it.
ssh rocks :-)

If you set up to have the (only) X session running on the WinTV card, then all the normal
console sesions should still be there on your monitor conected to you graphics card.

It's theoreticly possible to run more than 1 X session (I do this on machines at work), so I
plan on setting up 2 C sessions, one on the promary graphics card, and a 2nd on the PVR-350's
frame buffer.

I made sure for testing I had a monitor hooked up. Once the framebuffer
was loaded the monitor went back and I had image on the TV (My first image
was the Xwindow boot screen)

once you have a working config you should not need the monitor unless the
bootup is failing before starting X

I've had a few lockups (well, ivtv takes a header anyway) when running
the framebuffer... So I stuck the monitor under the tv and use it on
there. When doing it like, I've never had a lockup

That's okay. But at least I use /dev/fb0 there and then I can simply
not use the monitor for virtual consoles, because everything is on
the framebuffer /dev/fb0, and not even text-consoles are working on
the monitor (which I would love to have ;-)

Well - I have the problem currenty that the box sometimes just
freezes - doesn't do anything on the TV (just the freezed picture),
no ping via network, nothing. And of course no oops-message or so
since I do not have a console where he could write it to. That's why
I'd like to have the monitor there, to see the alert- and
kernelpanicmessages if there are any.

Ciao, Hanno
