Left Channel out - The Cat Did it?

I've looked in the key bindings and maybe I missed it -- (and I'm checking the Wiki)

I think my cat hit a key or something as my left channel is out suddenly of late. (sometimes he shortcuts across the keyboard much to my dismay)

Is there some setting that controls balance? (or shuts off channels?)

I did a quick check of the motherboard... I disconnected the front panel HD-Audio setup from the MB connection (and reinstalled the jumpers).

No dice.

I know I'm missing something dumb.. (or maybe not?)

-Ben

I seem to recall a left/right mute being added a few years ago for certain programming where different languages are put on different channels. Cantonese/Mandarin is the common case. If the feature is enabled in your frontend then mute cycles through left, right, and both. You could try pressing the mute key a few times to see how good my memory is.

There's a key binding (TV Playback/CYCLEAUDIOCHAN , no default binding)
and menu entry for the same (probably under Audio in the playback menu),
which can mute everything or just left channel or just right channel.

I see that -- F9 or |

and it just mutes both channels or not.

This is an older 0.23 installation (I still haven't retired - but was working on tonight with my new split MBE multi-FE system starting with FE #1)

I've actually wondered if the motherboard hasn't been stressed (CPU Heatsink is from 2005 and really puts a bend in the PCB)

That's the default binding for TV Playback/MUTE. The separate binding
for CYCLEAUDIOCHAN may not have been added until after 0.23 (don't
remember when I put that in). Before the binding, it was a setting for
whether the MUTE binding would mute all or cycle.

You should probably also check alsamixer or something to see if left or
right channels (or something) are muted.

Good luck finding the problem.
