Oplympics on Channel NINE Australia

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set a Power search rule for the Olympics on Channel 9
(Australia) like this:

channel.callsign = 'NINE DIGITAL' AND program.title = 'London 2012 Olympic
Games' AND program.subtitle NOT LIKE '%Shooting%' AND program.subtitle NOT
LIKE '%Archery%'

Is this going to work and record only the events I want and skip the ones I
don't want as given in the query above? I'm using Shepherd for my program
guide and not sure if the program subtitle is even relevant here.

Wonder what kind of recording rule(s) have others using Shepherd set for
the games?

Thanks,
Igor

Re: Oplympics on Channel NINE Australia [In reply to]

I'm in Melbourne using shepherd guide data. My guide data is just
generic 4 hour blocks listing all the sports that might be shown in
between the swimming heats. Program Subtitles are just Day 1, Day 2
etc.

I don't think your power searches will be successful given the quality
of the guide data we have available.

I've got a non-Olympic power search for cycling that has scheduled
about 20 hours of recordings but I'll be surprised if I actually get
much cycling. I suppose that's what the skip button is for though.

(Fixed top posting)

Don't be surprised. I've just watched the men's road race live (ie without the
aid of mythtv) and I can confirm the whole race was shown. Unfortunately it was
switched seemingly randomly between BBC1 and BBC3 with a segment on the red button.

The schedules, even in the UK, aren't good enough for this kind of behaviour.
But I don't think that the schedules are the problem, here. The whole of the
output I have seen so far, including some of the football [soccer], shows that
the output from the BBC is far below the standard I would have expected for such
an event.

Mike

Why aren't you watching on the extra BBC channels?

The whole race was shown live earlier on BBC Olympic Stream 3 and the
EIT info on the Stream Channels has been pretty spot on all day except
where they had time overruns in the Judo.

Here's a screengrab of the midday listings....

We have 12 live feeds here (24 if you include the HD simulcasts)

Shame I'm not really interested in the bloody olympics!

I did enjoy a half hour of the women's beach volleyball earlier though :)

As Mitt would say "remind us of our Anglo-Saxon roots...".

I'm currently watch Aus v USA in the Beach Volleyball, which has to be
the se*iest sport at the Olympics.

Couldn't they find smaller Bikini's? Are they regulated at that size?

Re: Oplympics on Channel NINE Australia [In reply to]

I think this tweet sums up how people in the USA feel about your 12
channels of content, lol I know if I paid $1.4b for the rights I'd be
showing non stop coverage instead of CNBC showing some crap Americans
stupidest explosion videos or whatever it is they have on at the moment.

How is CNBC and CNBC NOT SHOWING #OLYMPICS
<http://twitter.com/#!/search/%23OLYMPICS> at the moment (showing
regular crap programming)
http://twitter.com/LiveOlympicChat/status/229343433532260353

We have 12 live feeds here (24 if you include the HD simulcasts)

Shame I'm not really interested in the bloody olympics!

I did enjoy a half hour of the women's beach volleyball earlier though

I'm not sure about US scheduling but thought it was mostly being shown
timeshifted in the evening?

Oh and it's 24 channels of content with them also simulcasted in HD.

All free to air and in the clear.

Here's the schedule for 9am tomorrow with a more info box for channels 1-15

http://tinypic.com/r/fcs5t0/6

Here for 16-24 + a couple of the simulcast HD channels.

I know this is off topic but have you found an easy way of setting sensible
channel numbers for UK fta satellite stuff?

Chris

Could you please not top post, there are quite a few readers on the
list that can't handle it and there are some subscribers who get quite
bolshy about it.

More then happy to have a channel numbering conversation.....I'll
setup a new thread for it though.

Apologies I'm replying from my android tablet using the Gmail app and it
appears it just top posts without some serious faffing to get stuff to the
bottom.

I'll try to remember in future!

I was surprised with how much I got last night in Australia with only
1 Olympic channel but luckily I watched it live.

The recordings scheduled using Shepherd data and a cycling search
recorded 6:30-11pm and then 1am-6am the following day. Unfortunately
most of the cycling was shown between 11pm-1am. Initially I thought it
was a false duplicate as I've found a few of those later in the week
but the guide data for that period just didn't contain cycling as a
keyword.

OP, I'd suggest a manual recording if there is something you really
want to see rather than rely on generic guide data and searches.

Yeah, I know all about the extra channels. I have Freeview and Virgin Cable. The
extra channels aren't available on Freeview - easily, that is. I could use the
extra channel allocations in Virgin but that interferes with other people's
viewing. It's no biggie.

I'd assumed, being duly cynical, that the weird scheduling of some of the events
was so that they would be shown live at prime time in the US.

The oddball sports that Americans don't know about are being shown at other
times, when the rest of us are still awake.

The opening ceremony, for instance, *started* at 9 PM (GMT+01:00) and didn't
finish until 01:45 the following morning. Small surprise that some of the
athletes decided to give it a miss and get their beauty sleep instead.
