Problem configuring new channels

Hi all,

I just moved and changed my service from Comcast local digital to the FIOS local digital. I am trying to configure the new channels and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good way to do it. It always seems to be such a pain.  I downloaded the new schedule from schedulesdirect (which Im not 100% sure is correct BTW), then I scanned for channels with the "cable" channel frequency and "unencrypted" and "test decryptability" checked.  The scanner seems to have found a bunch of channels maybe about a 100 or so, but many of them are just black and some throw an "error opening jump program file buffer" error message. I can't tell for certain but it seems like I am not able to tune any of the local HD channels (eg 7_1, 5_1, 2_1, etc.) which I should be able to get, but I am able to tune a bunch of SD channels. Am I doing something wrong?  I seem to remember using Scte65scan in the past, but its been so long and I haven't tried it again.

When I plugged the coax directly into my TV, the TV itself seemed to have a much easier time finding the proper channels including the local HD ones. Why is it to hard with my WinTV-1250?  :)

Thanks,
J

OK after a bit more research I think I have some specific questions that hopefully someone can help with.  I tried to zero in on a particular channel.  7_1 tunes fine directly through my TV, but when I try to tune it through Live TV on MythTV  it seems to get a partial lock and then I receive an "error opening jump program file buffer." In the backend logs I see the following error messages:
Jul 24 18:14:24  mythbackend[8090]: E DVBRead dtvsignalmonitor.cpp:347 (HandlePMT) DTVSM(/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0): Wrong PMT; pmt->pn(11004) desired(11003)
Jul 24 18:14:24  mythbackend[8090]: E DVBRead dtvsignalmonitor.cpp:347 (HandlePMT) DTVSM(/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0): Wrong PMT; pmt->pn(12407) desired(11003)
Jul 24 18:14:24  mythbackend[8090]: E DVBRead dtvsignalmonitor.cpp:347 (HandlePMT) DTVSM(/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0): Wrong PMT; pmt->pn(12405) desired(11003)
Jul 24 18:14:24 mythbackend[8090]: E DVBRead dtvsignalmonitor.cpp:347 (HandlePMT) DTVSM(/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0): Wrong PMT; pmt->pn(12404) desired(11003)

At first, I was hopeful that the PMT error was just a result of leftover channel configs from a previous setup with a different TV provider; however, even after deleing my video sources, adapters and channels, and truncating the channelscan, channelscan_channel, channelscan_dtv_multiplex tables, and then setting everything up again from scratch, I am still seeing the exact same behaviour.

Anyone have any ideas?  At this point, I am pretty confident that I should be able to tune this channel.

Thanks,
J

After a bit more research I was able to confirm that the problem is only related to LiveTV. I can record channel 7_1 without a problem.  So, just to be on the safe side, I went back deleted all the channels, adapters, video sources as well as truncating all related tables again (channelscan, channelscan_channel, channelscan_dtv_multiplex, and a few others), rebooted, and set up everything a third time from scratch (maybe its a fourth or fifth time by now). Unfortunately, everything is still behaving exactly the same. Recording works, LiveTV does not. I also checked to make sure that "Quick Tuning" was set to "Never"; so why would LiveTV be any different than recording?

Would anyone have a suggestion at this point? I haven't seen any recommendations on this list beyond deleting everything and rescanning. (Of Which Mike seems to be a very big proponent.)

Would it be worth it to try to scan using dvbscan instead of myth? Is the problem even related to scanning since recordings actually work.

Thanks in advance for any pointers or suggestions. I'd really like to get my live TV back.

Thanks,
J

In mythtv-setup, change your capture cards to "Use quick tuning"
"Never". It's probably set to "Live TV only," right now.

Thanks for the response Mike!!, but I had already checked that. It is set to "Never". I also checked the db and cardinput.quicktune equals "0".

Any other thoughts?
