MythTV 0.25.1-fixes / HDHR3-EU DVB-C problem

Hi list,

is there anyone with a similar problem (and a perhaps solution)?

Using an HD Homerun DVB-C box on the master-backend, it produces
megabytes of the following erros when debug-verbosity is set to "most":

2012-07-12 17:27:30.720194 E [22069/22135] HDHRStreamHandler
mpeg/mpegstreamdata.cpp:972 (HandleTSTables) - PSIP table 0x83 is invalid

2012-07-12 17:27:30.720205 E [22069/22135] HDHRStreamHandler
mpeg/mpegtables.cpp:218 (VerifyPSIP) - PSIPTable: Failed CRC check
0xbf0d749b != 0x8c18dc63 for StreamID = 0x82

With verbosity set to "important, general, channel" there's only this error:

2012-07-12 17:39:28.745128 E [22413/22480] HDHRStreamHandler
mpeg/mpegstreamdata.cpp:362 (AssemblePSIP) - Error: offset>181, pes
length & current cannot be queried

Watching LiveTV adds this messages to the backend log:

2012-07-12 17:43:02.561780 E [22413/22598] HDHRStreamHandler
dtvsignalmonitor.cpp:347 (HandlePMT) - DTVSM(1220B6ED-0): Wrong PMT;
pmt->pn(28463) desired(28106)

Video and sound is garbled in recordings and LiveTV, while everything
works fine with VLC on Linux and on a Windows 7 machine.

Thx
Daniel

I don't have a solution, sorry. But I can point out some things that
are not the issue :-)

Others have a similar / the same problem

The CRC Error is a false positive and can be ignored, see
http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10495

The other errors can be due to bad signal quality, but if the same
channel works in VLC but not MythTV, then its likely something else.

Did these / this channel work before in MythTV?

Does the problem only show on a single multiplex / frequency?

If its an issue with the multiplex then it should only apply to ARD
stations (see
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabel-Multiplex-_und_Compression-Center )
Btw, I have already successfully recorded from that multiplex (some
months ago and with a plain PCI DVB card. I'm guessing your provider is
Unitymedia based on your whois data)

Karl

I just saw http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/10414#comment:15 pass by.
UDP receive errors match your symptoms quite well.

Yes I've found this ticket in the meantime.

No it doesn't seem to be a signal quality issue.
There is only on frequency where signal quality is very poor (
a8qam256-6900:426Mhz with only around 50%).
Here I don't expect any reasonable results.
The others are quite ok between 70% and 85%.
I cannot detect any packet losses in the net and as said before, it
works fine with other software.

> Did these / this channel work before in MythTV?

Yes. I can record and watch all this channels from the KNC-One
PCI-tuners in my slave-backend, which is connected to the same 4-way
antenna amplifier.

> Does the problem only show on a single multiplex / frequency?

No it shows on all frequencies

That's right, provider is Unitymedia

No there are no UDP-drops on backend- or frontend-side
Resizing recieve buffer didn't help also (sysctl -w
net.core.rmem_max=2097152).

Some tuning of the antenna amplifier brought me to an average signal
quality of about 70% on the 426Mhz-frequenzy and 90% (100% signal
strength, 100% symbol quality) on all others.
But this increase still has not shown much improvement of video and
sound quality in mythfrontend for the Homerun-box.

Hmm, I'm out of ideas. There is also a thread over at Silicon

Re: After upgrade to 0.25 mythtv won't accept more than 2 tuners [In reply to]

[Solved]

My inability to schedule with more than two tuners was down to not
enough /tmp space for mysql.

I have been using a 200MB RAM tmpfs. This has always been fine, but
some of the temporary tables seem to be very large (they are deleted
very quickly but one was 119MB). I moved my temporary table setting in
my.cnf and everything now works well.

I must thank Brian Murrell's post for leading me to my solution

Thanks for your help Karl.

So once again another 150 Euro for nothing.

<rant>MythTV has stopped being fun with 0.21. It's getting crappier with
every new version. Who needs a broken android-client while even basic
features are almost unusable?</rant>

Crappier in every version? Hardly.

Exactly how many Trac tickets have you opened with your issues? If you find
problems, it is your responsibility to actually report them as your setup
is likely fairly unique and you are likely hitting issues nobody else has
even seen. There's no way we can fix issues we've never even heard of.

I don't agree with the crappier comment at all even if I do have the
same problem which was seen by Karl.
As soon as I get back from my holiday I'll try to gather enough info for
a ticket.
In short for me it's one frequency but all channels on that frequency
are affected, using the quickview optiin from sillicondust which opens
VLC there's no hiccup whatsoever. Since no one ever responded to my
mail, I assumed pebkac on my side.
