Made my own fanart but Myth's not using it

Ishtar didn't have any fanart at
http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/12704-ishtar so I downloaded an image
and saved it in the fanart directory as 12704_fanart.jpg.

Myth however is not picking it up. Am I missing a step?

Sometimes I've found that new fan art/posters/etc takes a few hours before
it becomes live.
Maybe there's an internal review process at themoviedb.org or suchlike?

I'd give it 24 hours or so.

But if you really need to check, run the media-downloading script manually,
see what it's telling mythtv about your movie.

cheers,

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. I didn't upload fanart to themoviedb, I
put a file in my fanart directory on my backend/frontend. So this is
not a download situation.

yes

either:
* contribute the art upstream so everyone can enjoy it. In return you
get to use the well tested automatic process for fanart.

or:
* put it somewhere on the web (may be local) and add proper custom
metadata (e.g. MXML) see
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythTV_Universal_Metadata_Format

contributing upstream has the nice side effect of having a backup in
case of a disk crash, etc. pp.

Karl

Why not? Seems a bit selfish, it's a user generated dB.

He might not have wanted to upload images because of potential copyright issues.
You don't know where he got the image(s) from. Pulling a file for your own use
is one thing, but uploading it for others would probably result in a lot of
lawyer's letters.

I always have to change themes and then change back. I believe that
clears and rebuilds the cache. it works for me.

As a related question, what is the best way to add coverart for personal
files?

I have some family videos, scuba dives, etc that I would like to give a
thumbnail. In previous versions, I had a script that use mplayer to get
a screen capture 1 minute in, and then it would make the appropriate db
changes.

I am not sure how to do this with the 0.25 version.

Michael

While I do understand where you are coming from that is bad advice as
either

a) you don't want to get lawyer letters and sued. then you *must* keep
your name of an internet service contract (and even that is not enough
sometimes) as there are so many mistakes being made "oh, we messed up
the login time's DST, whoopsy". ("I do not have internet" usually gets
you off the hook sooner or later)
So just leech on others bandwidth to play it safe

or you live with the risks that are involved with operating an internet
account and

b) you go the polite way and simply ask the source if you can share the
art via a fan art collection site. If its a professional source the
answer is likely no (as the right owners give only very limited
redistribution rights in my experience) but if its an enthusiast source
you likely can share it with a "leave the name tag intact" restriction

c) you use your fair use rights. no need to ask. (that is an US example,
there is no fair use in the old world, yet. Works for at least the
noncommercial databases)

d) lastly you can stick it to the man... Its not as if there are whole
tv shows that feed on "funny clips from the internet". (some do take
care of rights clearance and some don't. You might even get your own
video pulled of the net after it got stolen by a company)

Being afraid and not using the rights you *do* have does not help
anyone. You are still being sued and the rights will be slowly taken
from you as "no one is using that right anymore".

Regards,
Karl

PS: IANAL, but I can read the news and have to live with the
restrictions that tv stations have to impose on the data feeds I get.
That's part of the reason that I'm tooting the tvbrainz horn. Its lots
simpler to go the bottom up route with tv metadata as you avoid the
licensing issues by building on community contributed data.

The wiki page I linked to provides the interface between your script
and MythTV. Just put the data into a file called <theVideoName>.mxml
and rescan.
You can also properly credit your family members as actors so you can
search for videos where grandma was present. (or order by date of
production, add your notes as synopsis, etc pp)

You might also want to try mythpreviewgen instead of mplayer, but I'm
not sure how you can manually run it on videos.

Karl

The mxml files are just a very slight extension to the existing metadata
grabber format, and the grabber format was designed with the intent one
would need to be downloading that file as a URL. It does not currently
support artwork that is already on the filesystem.

Thanks Karl,

Are you aware of any way to read the tags including the thumbnail from
an existing m4v ipod/ipad file? I would love to parse those and then
generate respective mxml files as mentioned above.

Michael
