Check your key bindings. In mythfrontend, go to Utilities/Setup|Edit
Keys, then scroll to the Main Menu context and look for EXIT (or
EXITNOPROMPT). Check that it's actually mapped to Escape (and not
Alt-Esc or Ctrl-Esc or ...)
