This is a Compiz bug that was reported here:
http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/9589
but the solution caused problems for some exotic multihead setups so it
was dropped, leaving all Gnome and Unity users to suffer.
There's a workaround that that be enabled from the CompizConfig control
panel which can be installed with:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
Then start CompizConfig control panel:
ccsm
Navigate to utility/workarounds and then tick "Legacy Fullscreen
support"
