Has anyone had any experience with the USB version? I haven't yet
heard from anyone who has one, so I don't know if my code has ever
been tested with it. From what I understand, it should work just the
same, but I can't be certain.

What can I do with it, how it works, does it have an internal hard
drive or what? I understand all these devices must comply with DRM? So
when I plug it into my Linux box which does not care about DRM what do I
get?

It's a USB-interfaced CableCard tuner.

the newegg reviews seem to indicate there were issues with it but that
more recent "beta" firmwares seem to have fixed them.

Right, that's the only thing I knew before.

What can I do with it? Is it like I can see/record anything I have
access to into my MythTV box? Or I just can see/record what's flagged
free by my cable company?

Yeah, but all the reviews I've seen are from windows users. I was
wondering if anyone has tried the USB version in mythtv.

Good link. If you have Comcast, you will be able to record everything
you subscribe to except premium channels. If you have Time Warner, a
CableCard tuner would boil down to nothing more than a quad-QAM tuner.
I thought it was worth mentioning since Comcast and Time Warner hold
such a large percentage of the market. Other providers will vary.

I've held off on buying this because Ceton hadn't released linux
drivers for the USB device. However, it now appears that they have,
at least in beta for usb. Take a look at
http://cetoncorp.com/infinitv_support/linux_drivers/
It's a user-space USB driver that requires libgusb. I'm hoping that
it exposes the same network device that the PCIe driver does. Having
said that, I'm tempted to try it out.
Their additional test code seems to use the RTSP method - Ron, isn't
that slightly different from the way that you implemented it? It is
worth noting, though, that the firmware image seems to be in common
between the PCIe and the USB devices, so what works with PCIe will
hopefully work with the USB version also.
I think that I might take the plunge on this.

I added RTP/RTSP support when I wrote the code for 0.25, and then I
backported that feature to my 0.24 patch back in January. So you
should be fine with that in either version. I've been using RTP
exclusively since I wrote the code for it, and it works fine. So the
only other thing that would be needed would be access to the web
control panel. If the PCIe and USB share the same firmware, then I bet
they'd be the same in that respect, so my hope is that everything
would work fine.
