I'm piping in here, so feel free to scold me if I'm way off base...

Supermount is a kernel-based module, and for a while Mandrake was bundling
this inside their kernel but that was way back (7.x series) when I last used
it. So could be (in a way) distro-related.

I just realized we're apparently talking about FC1, so nevermind the
Mandrake stuff I said. I was just pointing out that supermount is a
different beast from the usual desktop-environment controlled automounting.
