Down grade from 0.24 trunk to 0.23.1 on Mythbuntu Lucid

Down grade from 0.24 trunk to 0.23.1 on Mythbuntu Lucid

Greets.

I'm running a stable FE/BE combo on Mythbuntu Lucid with 0.23.1. I would like to test 0.24 trunk for some bug fixes and then downgrade back to my stable 0.23.1 setup. As I understand it the basic steps would be to:

0) Shutdown MythTV FE/BE
1) Backup the MythTV DB
2) Change to use the 0.24 repo
3) Apply upgrade
4) Start and test MythTV FE/BE
5) Stop MythTV FE/BE
6) Change to use the 0.23.1 repo again
7) Apply upgrade
8) Restore the MythTV DB backup
9) Fire up MythTV FE/BE again

Does it work? Any gotchas I need to watch out for?

Have you considered a live CD?
Personally I wouldn't risk the myth packages leaving files around when
they're removed. You might get even subtler problems like if something
gets added to a config file and it breaks your old setup when you go
back.

A Live CD of Mythbuntu 10.04 LTS? Can this be "upgraded" to current trunk packages using apt-get and the 0.24 PPA or is it a read only thing?

I tried this last weekend on my stock Mythbuntu 10.04 system as an
experiment.
I'm totally paranoid so this is what I did.

a. clone MBE OS disk using g4l
b. make sure all FE are OFF and no programme are due to be recorded!
c. replace OS disk with clone, reboot
d. change autobuild config and 'upgrade'
e. database update etc.
f. config and test MBE/FE .
g. repeat for all FEs.

my plan fell apart at 'e.' but I think that was of my own making as I
was mucking about with some other stuff at the same time. But in theory
this should worked. Even though I failed I was back up and running on
the original OS disk in 5min and live to try again another rainy weekend.
