New user can't get started on mythtv

New user can't get started on mythtv

Hi,

I'm struggling with a tarball install with Slackware 9.1. First thing, I
don't know how to get mysql up and running.

"can't find /var/run/mysql.socket"

don't get me anywhere. Do I need to settle this before moving on?

I'm set up OK with mencoder and cron jobs but a GUI for everything wounds
tempting.

Really need to see this working. :)

Did you start the MySQL daemon? It's probably something like

/etc/rc.d/rc.mysql
