Value estimation of MythTV

Value of a human 1000000
Lifetime 80 years
In minutes 42048000
Sleeping 14016000
At work 4224000
Too young 3942000
Education/School 518400
Too old 259200
Available to commercials 19088400

Value of saved commercial-time 0.05 per minute
Movie/Docu/etc vs. Commercials 25%

Watching 1000hrs a year saves 250hrs,
which adds to a value of 750.00 a year.

Regards

Belcampo

Excellent choice of unit.

You need to reduce that "value" by the amount of time spent getting MythTV set up and the amount of time maintaining the MythTV
setup.

Or multiplied with the amount of people in the household who also
profit. ;-)

It gets even better when you factor in timestretch. I watch almost all
shows at 1.2 or 1.3x, and a few at 1.5 or 2.0x. I'm to the point now
that watching content at normal speed makes everyone seem like they're
moving and speaking through treacle... I think I'd have to give up TV
before I gave up timestretch.

Agreed.

Yeah, between time stretch and commercial skipping a "30 minute" program becomes more like 16 or 17 minutes.

Of course some programs "stretch" better than others, news shows and other talking heads are the best.

Unfortunately, on my system, I can't time stretch HD-PVR recordings,
only MPEG2 OTA recordings. Maybe I need a better video card, I'm only
using onboard GeForce 8300 with VDPAU.
