Your recording statistics?

MythWeb has a nice Recording Statistics page that I take a look at every
now and then. My stats are as follows:

Number of shows: 330
Number of episodes: 3150
First recording: Sunday September 14th, 2003
Last recording: Sunday May 9th, 2010
Total Running Time: 6 years 7 months 24 days 16 hrs 44 mins
Total Recorded: 4 months 11 days 21 hrs 47 mins
Percent of time spent recording: 0%

Just curious to see what everybody else's stats are.

During the 6.5 years of MythTV use my family has gone from standard
cable (not digital, but good selection of channels) to basic cable
(basically channels from stations that broadcast in our area), to no
cable and just OTA TV (this change just a couple of weeks ago).

Cheers,

Eloy Paris.-

Haha. Nice stats. Do you guys watch everything you record? In our case,
for the most part, we do, although every now and then I'll record a
movie or show that I end up not liking so I delete it without finishing
it. We also record some shows (like "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit")
that just pile up in there and we watch them whenever we don't have
recorded anything else we like.

Our kids watch a bit of LiveTV. My guess is that these stats include
LiveTV as well, at least as of the MythTV release that made LiveTV work
very similarly to regular, scheduled recordings.

By the way, it'd be nice to have a way to know how much time you've
saved through the years by skipping commercials -- I am sure we have
saved a huge amount of time by not having to watch commercials :-)

Cheers,

Eloy Paris.-

Percentage looks bogus to me when I do three channels 24/7.

Backend status shows more weirdness:

Disk Usage Summary:

o Space Used: 1,179,850 MB
o Space Free: 3,824 MB

+ Space Used by Deleted Recordings: 0 MB
+ Space Used by Auto-expirable Recordings: 1,153,196 MB

When LiveTV is all there is, most of the time?
(I rarely watch, so it records *.* into LiveTV and only specific stuff
into Recordings)

I'd never noticed those statistics before. Mine are:

Number of shows: 973
Number of episodes: 4860
First recording: Saturday May 10th, 2008
Last recording: Monday May 10th, 2010
Total Running Time: 2 years 1 hr 48 mins

Percent of time spent recording: 3%

Obviously we watch too much telly.

cheers

It is, but something that's not recorded is:

How much do you record but never watch?

I record a lot of stuff "just in case", and often never get around to watching
it.

I've also archived a lot of programs to DVD and put them on the shelf, again
"just in case".

Much of this material could be had from the internet, an example is "60
Minutes". I record it "just in case", but I suppose I could get the program
from the internet if it turned out to be something I want to watch.

You're saying that scheduled recordings, that are done completely
without frontend involvement, and are not even watched, much less
watched live, should be marked as LiveTV?

I would say that the majority of what is recorded is watched; however, not
necessarily the whole recording. For example, I only watch the major news
headlines, weather and traffic reports on the morning news, or only watch
the last 5 minutes to see who gets eliminated on those reality results
shows.

What I would like to see added to this page is a "total GBytes/TBytes of
HDD" recorded. There would be a stat I could proud to be ashamed of :-).

The recordinggroup name is LiveTV but that doesn't count here?
I named it that way so I could differentiate between whatever shows and
stuff that I *really* want recorded.
But I understand I have to start the frontend to qualify time as `LiveTV`?

A lot of those stats are inflated by shows that I don't watch regularly -
for example, I record Sportscentre every night (1246 episodes recorded,)
but maybe watch 15 minutes a week. Also record a couple of other shows
that cycle through and get deleted unwatched most of the time.

I think I had some sort of database glitch back in 2006, since I _know_ I've
been recording longer than that (my earliest shows are MPEGs, but I started
out with a WinTV-Go card (NUV only)).

I lost my history when I upgraded my backend in late 2006, but since then :

Number of shows: 473
Number of episodes: 3565
First recording: Saturday November 11th, 2006
Last recording: Sunday May 9th, 2010
Total Running Time: 3 years 5 months 27 days 22 hrs 55 mins
Total Recorded: 4 months 23 hrs 39 mins
Percent of time spent recording: 1%

About half of that was in the UK recording DVB-T and DVB-S, and the
backend survived a move to the US 18 months ago where I now record
analogue and ATSC via a HDHR.

When I moved from a combo system to a separate backend, I lost the database,
but not the recordings, due to an issue with my backup.

Number of shows:

169

Number of episodes:

3126

First recording:

Thursday December 28th, 2006

Last recording:

Monday May 10th, 2010

Total Running Time:

3 years 4 months 10 days 17 hrs 37 mins

Total Recorded:

3 months 27 days 11 hrs 3 mins

Percent of time spent recording:

1%

Udo,

What you describe is like naming your Dog "Pussy-Cat" then expecting
it to stop chasing sticks and stat using a litter box. For the
statistic in question LiveTV is stuff viewed from the "Watch TV"
choice on the mythfrontend main menu. No other way makes sense.

Well, the reality is of course a little more subtle.
As we are recording 24/7 and the mythweb screen does not elaborate on
LiveTV it is a normal assumption to associate the stat and the
recordinggroup as we seldomly watch using the frontend.

Well, then I might need additional statistics.
For amount of stuff in recordinggroup 'LiveTV' and similar for 'Recordings'.
Size in [G]bytes and play time perhaps?

Well, it's done that way because of you.
http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/5262 . I'd be happy to change it back
to the way it was before, because the way it was before was /far/ more
correct than the way it is now.
