Is there a 0.23 "live" preview available in recording screen ?

Hi All,
I really missed the "live" preview window that used to be in the
recordings screen of myth 0.21 and the filesystem space indicator bar
widget on the delete recordings screen.

I was hoping that their loss was only temporary until 0.23 came out.
Does no-one else miss these features ?

I also started wondering whether it was something peculiar to my own
install since I see that a lot of the TV settings screens mention
offloading preview generation to a "remote" backend among other
references to previews. Am I missing some setting that would at give me
back these "live" previews of recordings ?

I'm beginning to suspect that having a database whose content dates
back to 2003 might have some bit-rot creeping into settings that should
have more modern defaults.

Oh and if there is a way to get that old space indicator bar widget
back I'd be happy to try and edit my themes to resurrect it.

Any advice much appreciated...

Many thanks for myth 0.23

Cheers,

Doug

Nah, it still hasn't been rewritten for MythUI. I suspect it's a long
way down the priorities list, since it's not actually very useful, it
just looks cool.

The settings appear to be their purely in anticipation of its return.

This has been available in either Watch Recordings or Delete Recordings
since prior to 0.22. You just have to choose a theme that shows it or
change a theme to show it.

Ah, quite right! A bit of experimentation shows the ArcLight theme
uses the filesystem widget.

Many thanks,

Doug

It is actually useful. Sometimes (not as infrequently as one would wish
for) the #$@%^ networks play a re-run episode and don't identify the
episode but instead just provide the "generic" description for it (so
myth, of course, records it -- and yes, I know there is a setting to
turn that off -- not interested thanks).

The live preview makes it easier to see which episodes are repeats of
other episodes that one might have still unwatched without having to
actually select the episode for playback (and then exit and select
another, etc.).

Only if you're willing to watch a tiny little preview while you wait
through the before-the-show garbage, including commercials, that you
have to let play--since you can't skip around in a preview--then keep
waiting for it to "preview" some section of the show that's actually
recognizable, all to avoid hitting P and then Down or Left arrow (how
ever many times) to skip to a part you recognize. :)

And this completely ignores all the preview video restarts that occur
due to changes to the recording (preview regeneration, etc) or due to
changes to the recording list or other recordings in the list.

Sure. It's usually enough to identify duplicate episodes.

Not at all. I get at most a few seconds of garbage. But I have my
mythbox's clock NTP synced.

Again, a few, maybe 10 seconds at most is enough to determine duplicity.

And waiting several seconds for the "Please Wait" screen to get on with
things, and also incurring the 1-in-10 or so times the Please Wait
screen doesn't actually disappear when playback actually starts.

And then having to deal with the "end of play" menu that pops up (yes, I
know, also an option I can disable -- but I usually want it enabled).

Yes, but commercials and intros and "Previously on..." and ... take way
longer than starting playback for me.

Or just hit D to delete right from within the playback.

That said, it will eventually get done, but we want to do it right, this
time, rather than use the hack we had to use with the old UI design to
make it work. Unfortunately, doing it right means a /lot/ of low-level
infrastructure needs to be completed, first.

If this is happenning you should try and submit a subreport and logs. I can say with certainty that is has happened to me MAYBE twice since the Please Wait screen came into existance. And each was due to a problem on the box which I was thankfully able to trackdown.

Well if you choose to suffer ... :)

Dude. It's not a case of choosing to suffer. When I am legitimately
watching a program in full, I want the menu to come up at the end to ask
me what I want to do. That covers 98% of the cases. But it's one of
those things that's just not smart enough to read my mind the other 2%
of the time.

So given that, a different work-flow, namely the animated preview, was a
sufficient substitute.

But this horse is pretty dead and beaten, so let's just leave it be, OK?
