Upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 breaks LIRC

LIRC no longer works with my Hauppage card.

in kern.log it appears detected as a Leadtek.

I fixed that in lirc cvs back in December, seems the fix didn't get
picked up by your distro.

Thanks Jarod, that makes sesnse.

I am burning through rechargeable batteries on my wireless keyboard in
the meantime.

So, it doesn't appear on the fast track to get LIRC updated on Ubuntu
Lucid so I can use my Hauppage TV Card receiver.

I thought I would try a USB MCE Remote that came with a PVR150 years ago.
It is detected by lsusb as
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 1784:0001 TopSeed Technology Corp.

Could not get that to work either, at least didn't know what to pick
when I reconfigured lirc, some googling showed that don't work either:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1457741

But I learned that"building the latest lirc cvs" fixed it so what the
heck, it's not working now, followed this:

http://www.lirc.org/cvs.html

what's the best way out of this mess. What is the best supported USB
based IR receiver that works out of box on Ubuntu 10.04?

and anyone know if it's necessary to clean out what did?

I have a PVR-350 and recently unplugged its native IR receiver. replacing it
with a Philips mceusb receiver. After simply rebuilding lirc with the
"mceusb" device flag, I was astonished to discover that lirc responded to
the Hauppauge remote just as before, without any reconfiguration.

Unexpected, but delightful.

Sorry, no. Gentoo. But if your lucid's lirc build likes mceusb, I'd be
optimistic.

It has now though after I poked someone about it.

Apologies, I should have suggested the reporter file a bug and/or done
so myself (yes, I have a launchpad account now, and am even cc'd on a
bug or two), just been a touch distracted and busy lately (adding a
4th kid will do that to you...)

You really need to find out what's causing that....

Heh, its *not* what you're thinking... ;)

My wife and I have two kids the old fashioned way, and have had a
foster kid for a year and a half, and just recently took in a second
foster kid. Plus, if you ask my wife, I'm just an oversized kid
myself.
